About the Coalition
The Chemical Users Coalition (CUC) is an intentionally diverse set of companies engaged in business areas such as aerospace, consumer products, automobiles, electronics, infrastructure, energy, building products, national defense, information technology and finance. These companies share a common perspective that chemical management policy should reflect the following values:
- Health and environmental protection measures should be guided by principles of risk assessment that integrate the best available hazard and exposure information.
- Where feasible and consistent with sound risk assessment, governments should align standards across national, state and local borders.
- Processes for setting policies should be transparent and afford opportunities for effective participation by parties that will be affected by those policies.
- Information should be collected as efficiently as possible from parties that are in the best position to provide accurate, timely information.
- Programs to screen new technology should focus on significant risks through processes that are timely, efficient and protective of information that is essential to innovation.
- Risk management strategies should provide protection of health and the environment by establishing controls for the chemical substance at issue -- addressing formed items like machine parts, known as "articles," only where clearly necessary -- and allow for transition to practical alternative technologies that offer an improved health and environmental profile.
- Governments should increase public access to non-confidential information about the health and environmental effects of chemicals and about chemical regulatory obligations.
